We are so excited to have Ashley Dyer of Farmhouse Floral by Estabrook’s on the blog today. We met Ashley recently at the Bliss Wedding Show at Thompson’s Point. She was in the booth next to us and she was such a pleasure to work alongside that weekend. Her work is beautiful and she is such a joy and always smiling! I became a florist when I was twenty-years-old. I needed a job and I saw a floral delivery van pull up to a business I was visiting that day and thought that might be fun! Lol. I was always an athlete growing up and I was attending the University of Southern Maine at the time and playing lacrosse. I knew my passion for the future was to be a college lacrosse coach. But I applied to Harmon’s and Barton’s Florist in Westbrook. It was my birthday June 2ndand I was hired on the spot! I remember how difficult it was trying to remember all the names of each flower and what colors they came in and how the prices changed with the season. And holidays!!! Oh my lord, Holidays!! It was eye opening, that the floral industry wasn’t just about pretty flowers. But I loved the hustle! And I started to make a family within the company that lead me to 14 years with their business. Within those 14 years, I came and went because I coached lacrosse at the same time. I did eventually make it to the college level and coached for three years, but realized my passion lied elsewhere. And that was with Wedding and Events.
I love everything about it. I love talking with the brides, moms, grooms, event coordinators. I love learning more about what is new in the industry and how it is evolving. I really enjoy how different each event can be. I decided to take a leap this past year in November of 2018 and start to build a new florist in Yarmouth for the Estabrook’s. I really enjoy new and exciting challenges and I knew this venture was going to be just that. It was hard because you feel like you are leaving a family behind, but I knew this was what myself and my family needed! And I am so happy I took on this new chapter.
Because Farmhouse Floral is partnered with Estabrook’s greenhouse we can rent plants, trees, shrubs and other incredible freshly grown product for any wedding or event. I was afraid the 2019 wedding season was going to be slow with only a few weddings due to the timing of our developments, but with the support and advertisement we put into effect starting in November of 2018 we have officially booked for 2019. My first wedding was in December of 2018. I had a bride reach out to me about having a small ceremony in our greenhouse. She was marrying her high school sweetheart who was leaving for the Marines in two days after their wedding date. I said absolutely! We set up the greenhouse with beautiful poinsettias, green plants and decorated our arbor to make a perfect winter wedding elopement.
I strive to help Brides and Grooms build their dream wedding with my fresh floral designs. I look forward to the future here at Farmhouse Floral and see many more amazing developments happening. Yarmouth is such a strong community and their support has truly made a difference in the structure of our business. I also cannot thank the Maine Wedding Network Community for all their knowledge and support to help lift this floral business off the ground. I am truly thankful!”
