Keep your cup full… Always.

So I sat down to write this really inspirational blog to you… all about how you need to keep your cup full so you can pour out of it… and ZERO inspiration was flowing. So as I looked around me… I realized why. I have dishes covering my counter & filling my sink, bags from multiple occasions are unpacked and stuffed with things I need, my laundry is a complete joke right now, and my desk is literally overflowing with paperwork… like seriously.

But life happens, as we all know too well.

So, here it is: Keep your cup full… Always.

I know. Easier said than done. Life is insane. Sometimes I can’t remember what I’m searching for in the pantry, while other days I can remember the exact date I tried a lava cake for the first time (Wait, what? Who knows). Early on in this photography journey I realized how quickly your cup can run empty… and just how long it can run on empty. The second I start to see the bottom of my cup it’s too late. The hunger kicks in because I’ll forget to eat, bills will become rushed payments, my drawers are empty because the laundry has piled up, and sometimes I can’t even bring myself to answer my phone.
This happened last summer and I took it upon myself to find an alternative way. There HAD to be something I could do to balance all of this out. My go to? Yoga.

Hit the mat and breathe.

That’s what the little voice in my head says and it’s the only demand that I obey to it’s fullest. An hour of movement & breath, or just laying there and breathing, is what I need to balance it all back out. I shut my laptop, put my phone on Do Not Disturb, crank my playlist and hit the mat. The amount of clarity that it brings is a huge breath of fresh air and suddenly that negative-Nancy voice in my head goes away. Silence is amazing.

I can’t tell you how many people have brushed yoga to the side only to come back saying “Oh my God, it works.” When it comes down to it, it has nothing to do with the physical practice. It’s all in your head.

So whatever that little voice is trying to get through to you when your cup is running empty, I fully encourage you to listen to it before it starts to scream. Whether it be yoga, going to the gym, reading a good book, or taking a walk in the woods, consider it an investment with your well being.

Have a great Monday & remember everything you do is a choice 🙂
