Grace & Thomas | A Bear Mountain Inn Wedding | Maine Wedding & Portrait Photographer

Wedding

June 30, 2021

Grace + Thomas were married on May 15, 2021 at Bear Mountain Inn in Waterford, ME. It was the perfect day for these two to get married and what a celebration it was after so long of planning.

But, let’s take a moment to see how it all started. Here is how Grace + Thomas remember it all!

“Our story begins on a snowy Saturday in early January 2017.

A few weeks after “swiping right” on Hinge and comparing literal fish stories, we started setting the stage for our real life meet-cute. The first hurdle in the journey to our happily ever after? The discovery that Thomas’ “downtown” location setting did not indicate the West Village or Lower East Side like Grace thought. No. It meant downtown Stamford, Connecticut. A literal state away from Grace’s Brooklyn apartment. Never ones to be deterred from the potential for something special, we decided to give it a shot. Just in case the initial spark was powerful enough to make the one-hour-minimum commute worth it.

When the day came for our fist date, the East Coast was caught in the middle of 2017’s first blizzard. After Thomas’ valiant effort to drive from Stamford to Brooklyn was thwarted by snow induced gridlock on interstate 95 and a Metro North commute was deemed unrealistic due to time constraints with out of town friends visiting Stamford that night, we decide to call it. At this point, Grace was pretty sure the momentum would fizzle and our first date would never happen.

Flash forward to an hour or so later, after Thomas’ friends couldn’t make it to Stamford due to the snow, Thomas decided to take a chance! He caught a train down to Manhattan where he entertained himself with an overpriced beer at the Cipriani Grand Central concourse balcony while Grace was a predictable 10 minutes late. Her first thought upon seeing Thomas was how timelessly handsome he was. Even better than his photos! Thomas’ first thought upon seeing Grace was how regal she was as she confidently draped herself across her chair, looking like she owned the city. Little did he know, it was far less confidence and much more an attempt to compose herself and catch her breath after running from the subway to Cipriani in high heels and a winter coat.

From Grand Central, we managed to hail a solitary yellow cab and made our way downtown through the snowy city streets to Aria, a cozy small plate restaurant in the heart of the West Village. Though the streets were empty, Aria was buzzing with New Yorkers seeking refuge from the cold with good wine and great food. We squeezed into the last two seats available at the counter and began to get to know each other. A bottle of wine, a discovered mutual love of olives, and Thomas’ first taste of burrata later, Grace was texting her friends that she was falling in love and claiming she’d marry Thomas the next day if he asked.

After a stop at the now-shuttered Swine for a carafe of wine on tap, and our first kiss (!), we ended the night at Grand Army. As bartenders tried desperately to close up for the night, they frustratingly watched us dance in the near-abandoned bar. After a series of twists and twirls, Thomas pulled out all the stops for Grace and went for a deep, dramatic dip. Unfortunately, it ended up being into the back of a chair. Rather than breaking the mood, it remains one of Grace’s favorite memories of the night and helped set the stage for the rest of our relationship; one full of romance, silliness and a lot of laughs, often at ourselves.”

Grace and Thomas were married in front of all of their closest family and friends overlooking Bear Pond. They then spent the evening enjoying amazing food, dancing and a beautiful song by Grace’s best friend. We ended the evening with some sunset photos that still make me swoon! Now to see all the magic of the day, keep on scrolling down!
